Cheers Cubes Warn of Impending Intoxication

Cheers Cubes Warn of Impending Intoxication
Jan-12-13
The glowing Cheers ice cubes monitor the evening’s drinking pattern, each showing a different color to alert the drinker as the safety limit approaches.

Developed by Dhairya Dand after an alcohol blackout, the edible gelatin cubes are embedded with a coin cell battery, accelerometer and timer that track the number of sips over a given time, calculating the rising level of intoxication. If the drinker ignores the cubes’ warning and continues to drink, the system will send a text to a friend via the partygoer’s smartphone. The lights will also pulse in time with ambient music, because it is a party, after all.

The system is currently designed work with three different cubes, each on with either a green, orange or red LED, although later versions may feature an RBG LED. The Cheers cubes are currently in the concept stage, and Dand has been persuaded by friends to seek funding on Kickstarter.
