Color-Changing Strip Measures Alcohol in Sweat

Color-Changing Strip Measures Alcohol in Sweat
Dec-13-19
A sweat-based strip able to measure blood alcohol levels in the bloodstream offers better results than the standard breathalyzer method.

The strips, which were developed by a team from the University of Albany, are embedded with enzymes that react to the ethanol in the individual’s sweat, producing a colored spot on the strip. The darkness of the spot correlates with the amount of alcohol in the subject’s system. The strips are not only accurate, they have the added benefit of being usable on an unconscious person, which could be of benefit to first responders.
