A team of students have developed a more comfortable wearable defibrillator designed for patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest.
While there are already wearable defibrillators on the market, the prototype version created by the team from Johns Hopkins is designed to be more comfortable, helping to ensure that the individual will comply with wearing it around-the-clock. The new design replaces the conventional chest strap with a waterproof, breathable vest, which is easier to put on, and the control box has been reduced to a size small enough to be worn on the patient's wrist.
The team did not alter the science of wearable defibrillators, instead focusing on a "slip-on and forget" approach to make it easier for the user to wear the device with minimal interaction.
