Kaust researchers are working towards an innovative communications system able to diagnose a person’s health from their breath—even in a crowded area.
The breath communication system being developed by the Kaust team is based on known information that can be gathered from exhaled breath. In this case, the information is carried on molecules in the breath that could be detected from a distance and analyzed by machine learning algorithms. In addition to potentially spotting an infected person in a busy crowd, the technology could also be applied to smartphones and wireless health monitoring systems.
