The Ibasei Cappa generator brings hydroelectricity to a smaller scale, opening the door to harnessing power from rivers or waterways.
Designed by the Japanese company Ibasei, Cappa is similar to other hydroelectric generators, with rotating blades that drive a turbine to generate electricity. However, the Cappa is able to increase the velocity of water through its special diffuser, which in turn increases its electrical output. According to the company, a flow of water as low as 6.5ft/s will generate 250 W of electricity and five units together will generate 1 kW.
The device is also completely recyclable and has an uptime of virtually 100 percent.
