Computer Avatars Help Diagnoise Dementia
Sep-22-18
A voice and face recognition system able to identify the onset of dementia could help caregivers properly assess their patient’s abilities.

As the population ages, dementia is becoming more common, which brings with it the need for accurate dementia test. To bypass the adaptive test-taking skills that can mask the signs of dementia, a team from Osaka University and Nara Institute created a computer-based system that asks a series of questions and analyzes the patient’s response based on visual and speech parameters. A machine learning system with a library of dementia and non-dementia responses compares the data to its examples, delivering a 90 percent accuracy with only six questions.
