Conductive Strain Sensor Edges Closer to Smart Skin

Conductive Strain Sensor Edges Closer to Smart Skin
Dec-10-18
An electrically conductive nanowire network able to sense strain helps pave the way to wearable electronics and artificial skins.

The first of its kind to combine electrical conductivity and strain sensing capabilities in one elastic polymer, the material is made up of an array of meshed silver nanowires carefully welded together to retain flexibility. When a DC current was applied to the material wrapped around a toy, the system was able to detect the different levels of strain without compromising conductivity.
