Contact Free Thermometer for Smartphones

Nov-17-12 A new infrared thermometer for smartphones allows the user to instantly measure body temperature without needing to make contact with the patient.

Developed by Dr. Jacob Fraden, who helped developed the technology for Braun’s Thermoscan Ear Thermometer, the new module is the first of its kind for smartphones. The small 2.5 mm infrared lens is located on the back of phone, near the camera lens, and delivers a response in less than one second. The sensor has a range of 22 ºF to +400ºF, which allows it to have a variety of applications beyond checking for fevers.
