Contraceptive Jewelry Adds Fashion to Pharmacy

Contraceptive Jewelry Adds Fashion to Pharmacy
Mar-26-19
A novel earring-based contraceptive delivery method would make it easier to remember to take daily medications.

Developed by a team from the Georgia Institute of Technology, the earrings are equipped with a transdermal patch that makes contact with the skin to slowly and consistently release the contraceptive hormone. The team hopes that since putting on jewelry is a daily routine for some women, the contraceptive jewelry could reduce the incidents of forgetting to take the medication as well as offer an attractive alternative to current contraceptive patches. The method could also be used to deliver other kinds of medications, helping to increase compliance in a range of patients.
