The Crop Phenotyping Robot was designed to make gathering data on crops simpler and more accurate.
Created by a team from the University of Illinois, the slender bot is guided down the row of crops by both GPS and manual control, where its array of sensors gather phenotypic data on plant specifics as well as soil conditions. The data is stored onboard the robot as well as transmitted to a paired device, allowing the team to create 3D maps of each plant, estimate biomass yield, and build predictive growth patterns.
