Disney Force Jacket Adds Feel Effects to VR

Disney Force Jacket Adds Feel Effects to VR
May-02-18
The haptic VR Force Jacket from Disney adds a new dimension to VR and gameplay—if you don’t mind snakes.

Developed by MIT and Disney, the Force Jacket is equipped with 26 airbags that can each be controlled independently, inflating at different speeds and to different amounts to create specific “feel effects.” Based on the amount of force applied, the bags can simulate a punch, a hug, or the feeling of a snake coiling on the body. The bags can also deliver vibrations to recreate the sensation of rain or riding a motorcycle.

Since the vest is operated by a vacuum pump and air compressor, it is not suitable for personal use. However, it could be used in installments or theme parks—which are right up Disney’s magical alley.
