DIY Battery Made from Scraps

DIY Battery Made from Scraps
Nov-05-16
Inspired by the Baghdad Battery, researchers have created an open-source, DIY battery made from junkyard scraps.

The team from Vanderbilt University developed the battery using scrap steel and brass, which they anodized with common chemicals and an electric jolt. This treatment caused the surface of the metal to rearrange into nanometer-sized networks of metal oxide, giving the metal the ability to store and release energy when submerged in a water-based liquid electrolyte.

The team plans to make a video explaining how to build the battery and release it to the general public.
