DON Robot Gets a Better Grip

DON Robot Gets a Better Grip
Sep-20-18
The DON robotic system visualizes objects as an array of points for better dexterity.

The DON (Dense Object Nets) neural net and visual system was created by a team at MIT to allow robots to visualize an object well enough to choose it from an array of similar items. The DON system also enables robotic arms to pick up an object at a particular point, such as a handle, regardless of the object’s orientation.

The team believes DON could have applications both in the industrial setting as well as around the home.
