Drug-Filled Bubbles Triggered by Heat

Drug-Filled Bubbles Triggered by Heat
Sep-21-13
Researchers have developed a phase-changing material that will allow drugs to be delivered to particular locations in the body and released when exposed to a bit of heat.

The team from Georgia Tech, Emory, and Yonsei University in Korea created the delivery device by developing tiny polystyrene bubbles designed to be filled with drugs, corked by a phase-change material and injected into the patient. The bubbles would then travel through the body to the target site, which would be warmed by a heating element. Upon arrival at the site, the phase-change material would dissolve to release the drug in the optimal location.
