The DucTT robot can travel through ducts vertically as well as horizontally, easing the task of keeping the ducts clean and preventing respiratory illnesses.
While automatic duct cleaning robots are already in use, they are limited by their range of direction, and can usually only move horizontally through the ducts. In contrast, the DucTT robot is built based on the principles of tensegrity, which was originally used to build robots for space exploration.
The DucTT is made up of two joined tetrahedrons that extend and brace against the inside of the duct to allow the robot propel itself along, both horizontally and vertically. It is both lightweight and flexible, with its batteries and electronics embedded within the tubes that make up the robos frame. This allows the DucTT to inch along the ducts or tubes automatically with up to six hours of battery life.
