Edible RFID Tags

Edible RFID Tags
Feb-17-18
Edible RFID tags applied directly to food could offer a new way to label foods and other materials.

Developed by a team from Rice University, the technology is an evolution of the team’s previous work in laser-induced graphene, which uses a laser to heat a material’s surface to create graphene. In their recent work, the group applied the method to a new range of materials—including bread, cloth and potatoes—discovering through practice that a defocused laser that made several passes delivered the best results.
