A new eye-imaging system lets ophthalmologists examine the eye with a single lens—saving money and time.
Typically, eye exams require multiple lenses of different focal lengths to examine all areas of the eye. As an alternative, the research team created a new optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging system, which replaces the series of fixed lenses with an electrically tunable lens. The OCT system can image the whole eye, from front to back, as well as offer “unprecedented detail” of the interfaces of the eye’s vitreous gel with the lens and retina.
