The innovative Electrick spray on technology could give touch control to almost any surface—even extremely large ones.
The Electrick technology, from a team at Carnegie Mellon University, involves applying a conductive coating to an object’s surface, and then attaching electrodes at the perimeter. Small amounts of current are then sent through pairs of electrodes, which will alter in voltage when a finger makes contact. This technique, called electric field tomography, allows the system to detect the location of finger touch with an accuracy of about a centimeter.
