Electronic Corset Aids in Rehabilitation

Electronic Corset Aids in Rehabilitation
Dec-19-12
More than a fashion statement, the sensor corset was designed to monitor the movements of the wearer to help doctors fine-tune rehabilitation.

Designed by a team of Italian researchers, the lightweight corset is embedded with an array of sensors that track the movements of the wearer’s torso, sending the data to a computer via Bluetooth. The flexible conductive elastomers are printed on the fabric and, being piezoelectric, will generate a current when they are bent or stretched.

In tests the corset was able to gather data about the bending and flexing movements of the wearer, which could help physical therapists determine if a patient is performing their exercises correctly.
