Electronic Label Monitors Temperature Sensitive Products

Oct-22-13 Thinfilm Electronics has developed an electronic temperature tracking label that will alert consumers if a product, such as food or medicine, has been exposed to extreme heat or cold.

The prototype Smart Sensor Label is made from printed and organic electronics, and features integrated batteries and an on/off switch. An easy-to-read display indicates how many times the label has been exposed to predetermined threshold temperatures, allowing retailers of food and pharmaceuticals to quickly determine if the labeled contents have gotten too hot or too cold.

According to Davor Sutijfa, Thinfilm CEO, “The integration of memory and logic creates an extensible platform, on which we will be able to create a wide variety of low-cost electronics in a label format.”
