The three-wheeled ELF velomobile combines a bicycle with a car to create a pedal-powered vehicle that can also be charged by the sun.
The aluminum-frame ELF includes a single seat, rear cargo compartment and vacuum-formed ABS composite body, as well as a windshield and complete LED lighting system. The single 8-pound battery pack can travel about 30 miles per charge, and that range can be extended by pedaling the vehicle. A roof-mounted 60-watt solar pale will provide a trickle charge while the ELF is parked, and the battery can be charged in two hours from a standard outlet.
The developers, Organic Transit, are currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with the initial run of ELF priced at $4000, much less than the electric-assist velomobiles currently on the market.
