Epidermal VR Patch Simulates Touch

Epidermal VR Patch Simulates Touch
Nov-21-19
A skin-like ‘epidermal VR’ haptic device able to simulate the sense of touch could have applications ranging from gaming to prosthetics.

The epidermal VR patch is equipped with an embedded network of wireless, disc-shaped actuators each able to vibrate independently to simulate textures, shapes or patterns. Sensations can also be transmitted from a control device to the patch in real-time, which could have applications in video chatting. The epidermal VR patch has already been tested on a volunteer, who reported being able to determine the grip strength in his prosthetic hand.
