Exowheel Steering Wheel Could Signal Turns

Exowheel Steering Wheel Could Signal Turns
Aug-21-16
The pneumatically controlled Exowheel steering wheel could conform to the grip of individual drivers as well as provide navigation information.

The Exowheel was conceived by the team at MIT’s Media Lab as a way to illustrate the benefits of the team’s Exoskin, a material made of a combination of elastic membranes and rigid bracings. In the case of the Exowheel, the material can be programmed to shift to suit different grips, even while the car is traveling down the road, or to send a series of small ripples to indicate an upcoming turn or stop.
