Facing Emotions App Translates Emotions to Sound

Facing Emotions App Translates Emotions to Sound
Jan-02-19
The Facing Emotions app from Huawei uses sound to let the visually impaired ‘see’ emotions.

Developed by the same team that created the StorySign app for children, the Facing Emotions app was created in collaboration with the Polish Blind Association specifically for the Mate 20 Pro smartphone from Huawei. The app works offline, using the smartphone’s rear-facing cameras to scan the face of the person speaking to the user and interpret their expression via AI. That data is analyzed by a machine learning algorithm to identify seven basic emotions, which are then represented as musical cues designed to be easy to remember.

There are studies that olfaction may aid navigation. Can smells be shown on maps or as sound? Visually impaired could navigate with that information and seeing people choose paths according to smells.
