Fiber Optic Probe Measures Brain Temperature

Fiber Optic Probe Measures Brain Temperature
Apr-16-18
A fiber optic probe able to measure brain temperature could help researchers develop safer drugs and refine cancer treatments.

Developed by a team at the University of Adelaide, the probe was initially created to explore the risks of medication causing overheating (hyperthermia) in the brain. Thin as a human hair, the 130-micron diameter probe can be interested deeply into the body in a minimally invasive way, allowing researchers to study the development of hyperthermia as well as determine ways to improve the thermal treatment of cancers.
