Fighter Jet Technology Could Keep Windshield Clear

Fighter Jet Technology Could Keep Windshield Clear
Dec-18-13
Supercar maker McLaren will soon begin using military jet technology in their windshields, making windshield wipers a thing of the past.

When McLaren design chief Frank Stephenson wondered why some aircraft don’t use windshield wipers while landing, he was told that the jet windshields were kept clear of water and bugs by “a high-frequency electronic system” that is constantly active and prevents anything from attaching to the windshield. Although the details have not been released, the hypersonic shielding could operate by attaching a hypersonic transducer to the glass that would vibrate to keep the glass clear of water and debris.

According to sources, the system could be available on the mass market by 2015 at a cost as low as $15.
