A new microfluidic device able to determine how electricity influences living cells offers a step forward in using electric fields to fight cancer.
Developed by a collaboration called the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), the device is able to identify the electric fields that best disrupt cancer cells. With this knowledge, the team hopes to eventually determine a way to use electrodes to kill cancer cells from outside the body, offering a minimally invasive alternative to current treatments.
