A polymer film able to transfer heat could bring us a step closer to wearable electronics.
The new material relies on the electrocaloric effect, which causes it to change temperature when subjected to an electric field. Made of a thin, flexible polymer film, the material is able to transfer heat from the heat source, such as a battery, to the heat sink by switching the voltage off and on.
According to the team, the material could be used to keep mobile and wearable electronics cool, as well as function as a sort of personal cooling system when placed in a hot or shoe.
