A swallowable, flexible sensor that adheres to the stomach walls could offer doctors a new way to monitor stomach movements.
The sensor, from a team at MIT, is made up of a flexible, piezoelectric polymer printed with electric circuits. The sensor can be rolled and fit into a capsule and then swallowed, after which the sensor will be released from the dissolved capsule to attach to the stomach wall. Once in place, the sensor will remain active for up to two days, allowing doctors to diagnose digestive track issues or monitor food intake in obese patients.
