Floating Rig Harvest Hydrogen from Seawater

Floating Rig Harvest Hydrogen from Seawater
Dec-20-17
A new floating solar rig would harvest the sun’s energy for sustainable hydrogen production.

Developed by a team of Engineers from Columbia University, the photovoltaic-powered electrolysis device would produce hydrogen fuel from sunlight and water without the need for a specialized membrane—which would be degraded by the impurities in seawater. Instead, the new device splits water into hydrogen and oxygen using a pair of asymmetrical, mesh flow-through electrodes, which makes harvesting hydrogen from ocean water possible.
