Flying Squirrel Drone Transforms in Flight

Jul-14-17 A lightweight drone inspired by the flying squirrel could be used for military scouting missions.

Still in the proof of concept phase, the squirrel drone is equipped with two pairs of motor rotors, which allow it to hover and move like a quad copter while still retaining the efficiency of a fixed wing craft. Reducing the number of rotors from four to two helps cut the drone’s weight, and its tilt rotor design enables it to transform in flight as needed.
