FootStriker Trains Runners with Electricity

FootStriker Trains Runners with Electricity
May-01-17
The FootStriker shoe trains runners’ gaits by stimulating the muscles with jolts of electricity.

Developed by a team from the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence in Saarbrücken, the FootStriker is meant to be used by professional runners and is designed specifically to decrease the number of heel landings. The system consists of a pressure sensor in the insole and a small pad that attaches to the back of the calf. When the sensor detects an improper foot placement, the pad will deliver a small jolt of electricity, stimulating the calf muscles to correct the foot position for the next step.
