ForceFilm Helps Surgeons Feel

ForceFilm Helps Surgeons Feel
Feb-12-18
The innovative ForceFilm from SensOR Medical Laboratories gives surgeons a sense of touch during minimally invasive surgeries.

While minimally invasive surgeries are becoming more popular, the small tools used during the procedures do not allow surgeons to easily gauge the force applied to the tissues. To give surgeons more dexterity, the team from SensSO developed the ForceFilm, a thin material that can be used on existing surgical tools to offer the user a sense of touch.

The ForceFilm is equipped with an array of strain gauges that measure the amount of force as it is applied, conveying the information in real-time to the endoscope monitor. The material can switched between tools without damage, and two or more systems can be used at the same time.
