The solar roof technology from Forward Labs could give Telsa some surprising competition.
While Tesla’s solar tiles are making waves, they can be expensive and time-consuming to install. As an affordable alternative, the solar roof from Forward Labs displays some striking differences.
Instead of a triple-layer design, the Forward Labs roof makes use of higher energy density monocrystalline solar cells embedded in tempered glass. This arrangement allows the team to create roofs in any color, while also offering 19 watts per square foot of energy density and a cost savings of up to 33 percent. According to the team, the roof uses standard manufacturing processes and can be installed in about half the time of its counterparts.
