Free Toolkit from NFL Aids in Helmet Design

May-21-18 The NFL has released a free software kit as part of their Play Smart, Play Safe campaign to help prevent head injuries.

In response to studies that point more conclusively to the dangers of concussions and other head injuries on football players, the NFL has released a software toolkit for engineers and entrepreneurs. The toolkit includes element models of modern helmets, test results from impact dummies, and test conditions that simulate impacts on the field. The goal of the project, developed in collaboration with Biocore, is to create incentives for the development of safer helmets and other protective equipment via a free and informative software toolkit.
