Designed by an osteopath, the FreedMan Chair allows the spine and pelvis of a seated person to maintain their natural curvature, encouraging the same posture that is created while standing.
Simon Freedman, a 20-year osteopath, created the chair to provide a more suitable option for comfortable, and healthy, sitting. The chair has been designed around a thigh angle of 27 degrees from horizontal, which Freedman believes is the ideal angle for maintaining the natural curvature of the spine. The FreedMan chair also features a pair of seat pads that can tilt from side to side, allowing the users to settle into their natural, sideways slant or simply be able to fidget a bit without needing to shift in the chair.
Although the chair is not yet proven to help relieve back pain, it does offer an alternative to the usual seating option, and makes it easier for people to incorporate standing into their work day.
