A new material from the University of Utah could lead to wearable electronics powered by body heat.
The new thermoelectric material differs from conventional devices in that it is relatively inexpensive, efficient, and does not require toxic chemicals such as mercury or cadmium. Instead, the material is made from calcium, cobalt, and terbium, which are safer and more affordable.
The team envisions the material being used in jewelry, vehicle interiors, and cooking pots—all which would be able to generate electricity from the difference in heat and cool air.
