Graphene Film Thwarts Mosquitoes

Graphene Film Thwarts Mosquitoes

Graphene-embedded clothing that disguises the wearer’s chemicals could offer a novel and chemical-free way to keep mosquitoes at bay.

The graphene oxide material tested by the team from Brown University works in two ways. Formed into dry, layered films, the material prevents the mosquitos from sensing the chemicals that alert them to potential victims while also physically blocking their access to the skin. The team believes that, with more research, the material could find its way into clothing or gloves for use in high-risk, mosquito-borne illness areas.
