Grasp Teleprescence Robot Gives Teachers a First-Hand View

Grasp Teleprescence Robot Gives Teachers a First-Hand View
Feb-28-15
The shoulder-worn Grasp robot could improve remote learning by providing the distant teacher with a first-person view of the student's actions.

Still in the prototype stage, the Grasp is made up of a webcam, speaker and microphone, a laser pointer controlled by the mentor, and Arduino control electronics. Once the device is in place on the student's shoulder, the student can communicate with the teacher in real-time, using either a phone or WiFi. As the teacher looks over the student's shoulder and offers instructions, he or she can also draw attention to specific objects via the remote-controlled laser pointer.
