Harness Detects Dog Obedience

Harness Detects Dog Obedience
May-03-16
An innovative harness that will reward dogs with treats could lead to faster and more effective training.

Developed by a team from North Carolina State University, the harness is based on previous technology, and is equipped with an array of sensors and electronics able to detect the dog’s posture and transmit the information to a designated dispenser. If the dog performs the commands correctly, the system will trigger the dispenser to release a treat. In tests, the system was able to reward the dogs correctly—and consistently—one hundred percent of the time.

The harness is part of a proof of concept that could lead to a way to allow dogs to use computers, such as using their posture to call for help.
