Monitoring daily cardiovascular function is an important part of heart health, but few patients take the time to do so. To encourage patient compliance, the team from Rochester Institute created a toilet seat embedded with sensors able to measure an array of parameters, including diastolic and systolic blood pressure, heart rate and variability, and blood oxygenation. The information could be shared with the patient and their doctors, and an algorithm able to detect cardiac warning signs is in development.
