HoneyBot Helps Catch Hackers

HoneyBot Helps Catch Hackers
Apr-12-18
The HoneyBot decoy robot roams factory halls, pretending to work to help foil hackers.

As industrial robots become more common, so do the threats of hacking. To help bait and catch these hackers, the team from Georgia Tech created the HoneyBot, a four-wheeled robot that acts as a standard, functional factory robot.

If the HoneyBot detects that it is being hacked, it will simulate the act of following the unsafe demands while actually performing harmless actions. According to the team, the false sensor data could be used to fool the hacker, keeping them distracted while allowing the factory to take defensive measures.
