Hummingbird Wings Inspire More Efficient Turbine

Hummingbird Wings Inspire More Efficient Turbine
Jan-26-17
An innovative new turbine inspired by hummingbird wings could prove to be more efficient—and more attractive—than conventional designs.

Developed by the startup Tyer Wind, the hummingbird-inspired turbine is still in the early testing phase, but the team is optimistic. The turbine features a pair of wing-shaped blades that move in a flapping motion to generate energy on both the upstroke and the down, offering a high energy output. The turbine’s unique shape can also resist high winds, and the design can be applied to both homes and industries.
