Hydrogel Aids in Knee Repair

Hydrogel Aids in Knee Repair
Apr-22-17
A new 3D-printed hydrogel could offer a way to print replacement menisci cartilage for knee repair.

Developed by a team from Duke University, the 3D-printable hydrogel is said to be the first able to mimic human cartilage in both strength and flexibility while remaining stable in the body. To accomplish this, the team created a double-network hydrogel made of two gels of different consistencies. Changing the mix of hydrogels allowed the team to create a material that mimics human cartilage.
