Implantable Lumee Oxygen Sensing System

Implantable Lumee Oxygen Sensing System
Jan-22-16
Lumee Oxygen Sensing System replaces wearable body sensors with a biocompatible sensor that can be implanted beneath the skin for continual monitoring.

Created by Profusa, the tiny sensor is made up of a hydrogel that has been embedded with an oxygen-sensitive fluorescent dye. As oxygen binds to the receptors in the dye, the intensity of the fluorescence will diminish, which can be detected with a handheld optical reader.

The Profusa team plans to develop more implantable sensors for uses in other applications, such as measuring levels of glucose and urea.
