Implantable Sensor Monitors Aneurysm Treatment

Implantable Sensor Monitors Aneurysm Treatment
Aug-06-18
A biomedical sensor implanted in the brain’s blood vessels could lower the cost and simplify the treatment of brain aneurysms.

Developed by a team led by researchers at Georgia Tech, the sensor is designed to be a part of a flow diverter device that typically must be monitored via an MRI and angiogram technology.

To offer a simpler and more cost-effective way to monitor the system, the team created a new type of highly-porous, diverter made of thin film nitinol. The sensor can measure the flow alternations in real time during and after surgery via a wireless inductive coil that sends electromagnetic energy through the sensor.
