Injectable Anisogel Could Help Heal Spinal Injuries

Injectable Anisogel Could Help Heal Spinal Injuries
Apr-13-17
The injectable Anisogel material can guide cellular growth, opening the door to a way to repair spinal injuries.

The material, developed by a team from DWI Leibniz Institute, features a microgel made up of a mix of polymer fiber beads embedded with rod-shaped, magnetic nanoparticles. That microgel is held within another gel that allows the material to be injected. Orienting the nanoparticles using a weak magnetic field will cause the gel to form a matrix that cells can migrate through—potentially helping re-attach severed spinal nerves.
