Scientists have created a device that enables jellyfish to swim up to three times their normal speed.
The microelectronic prosthetic attaches to the animals via a small wooden barb and is naturally buoyant.
Acting like a pacemaker, the tiny electric jolts also make them swim more efficiently, using just twice as much energy to swim three times faster. This combination opens up the possibility of using jellyfish to help gather data from across the world's oceans.
