Jet Feet Help Robots Take Larger Steps

Jet Feet Help Robots Take Larger Steps
Mar-24-18
The bipedal Jet-HR1 robot steps over large obstacles with the help of jet motors on its feet.

In development by a team at Guangdong University of Technology, the robot’s feet are equipped with small, ducted fans, which change its center of gravity and improve its balance when taking large steps over a gap. The fans help to support the raised leg, allowing the robot to take a step the length of eighty percent of its leg without tipping over.

The team hopes the technology could be lead to robot designs able to handle increasingly challenging terrain and complex environments.
