Killing Viruses with Cold Plasma Reactor

Killing Viruses with Cold Plasma Reactor
Mar-14-20
Researchers have built and tested a cold plasma reactor that can kill airborne viruses.

Although initially developed to stop infections in farm pigs, cold plasma may be equally effective at disinfecting public spaces such as subway cars, offices and even hospital wards.

Charged molecules are produced by the reactor that react with other molecules causing major damage to microscopic living things. Tests revealed that running air filled with virus through the reactor resulted in the exhaust containing less than five percent of the original living virus, and researchers believe they can improve on that result.
